Q: A debt collector told gave me a Court number, telling me that I would be sued if I don't come out with money by a certain date, can they do this?
A: No, A debt collector cannot just make up a court number to threaten you into paying a debt. A debt collector can sue you if it is within the statute of limitations (which is 4 years in PA). However, if a debt collector does not intend to sue you, the debt collector then cannot use legal action to harass you into paying the debt.
Again, to be sure contact Jeff for questions.
