Q: How long does a delinquent debt stay on your credit report?

A: Generally a debt in regards to an oral or written contract and promissory notes can be reported on your credit history for seven (7) years.  After seven (7) years the debt must be removed.  The seven (7) years begin to run from the date of first delinquency on the defaulted debt.


Judgments also can be reported for up to seven (7) years on your credit history.  Bankruptcy can be reported for as long as ten (10) years.
