Under the FFEL, what options do I have for repayment relief once my loans are considered in default?

A: There are only a few ways for federal student loan borrowers to get out of default.  Loan cancellations and bankruptcy discharges very rarely happen.  Most borrowers get out of default by the student loan rehabilitation program or by consolidating student loans.

Be sure to consider the pros and cons of both student loan programs  before considering your options.
